Ngara Anglican Primary School

Ngara Anglican Primary School

Ngara Anglican Primary School (NAPS) was established in late 1990’s originally as a school for the ex-pat children in the area who were working for the Diocese and with the UNHCR. Over the years it has developed into an English Medium School (which means all classes are taught in English) under the Anglican Diocese of Kagera.

NAPS provides schooling for Kindergarten to Standard VII. It is located in Ngara on the top of  a ridge offering a spectacular view below. There are three classroom blocks to house the students, staff office and library.

NAPS can currently cater for a capacity of 250 students. Kindergarten to Standard II attend from 8am to 1pm each day and Standard III to Standard VII till 3:45pm. The day begins with a whole school parade where announcements are given, the Tanzanian National anthem and other worship songs are sung and the school prayer is recited.

There is a NAPS School bus that departs from Murgwanza each morning. The bus does multiple trips to school in the morning and returns students both at 1pm and at the end of the school day.

Subjects covered at NAPS include English, Maths, Kiswahili, Science, History, Civics, Geography, Vocational Studies, ICT, Religious Studies, Personal Development and French.

For an added contribution, the students at NAPS are provided with a morning tea break of maize porridge and sweet bites. The older children receive lunch of usually rice and beans or ugali and beans.

The wearing of the school uniform is strictly enforced and the children are encouraged to come to school clean, neat and tidy.

NAPS is partnered with St Edmundsbury and Ipswich Anglican Dioceses in the UK who provide  financial and prayer support as well as sending regular visitors for short and long term placements.

There are always opportunities for teachers to come and volunteer at NAPS for long or short periods.
