School of Nursing - Facilities

Nursing School ClassMurgwanza Nursing School, whilst relatively new, has pooled some resources already. It has a small library with three old computers which are available to the students for assignments and presentation preparation. The Nursing School is in need of additional computers as the computer to student ratio is too low. The students struggle with the computer studies parts of the course as there are so few computers resulting in practice time being limited.

MNS LibraryThe library also stocks an array of books, some dating back to the 1960’s with some more recent up to mid to late 2000’s. There is an array of general nursing, medical surgical, nursing procedures, anatomy as well as physiology and midwifery. There is a lack of specialty area resources such as cardiology, neurology and urology etc. It holds a small bank of infectious diseases and tropical disease resources and a large cache of HIV/AIDS literature.

There are desks for private study, however the library is not always accessible to students due to the lack of a dedicated librarian.

The nursing school has two classrooms equipped with desks and chairs and has access to a computer and data projector for PowerPoint presentations to be used during teaching.  It has one lab with basic equipment for practicing nursing procedure and 'hands on' teaching opportunities. The Murgwanza nursing school is open to any donations of useful, working, up to date equipment and resources.

As the school is a live in facility, it has a male and female dormitory as well as kitchen and dining hall on site. Part of the students contributions goes towards their food and board.

The students wear uniform to all classes and whilst on clinical placement in Murgwanza Hospital, they must supply and care for these during their time as a student.
