Murgwanza School of Nursing
The Murgwanza Nursing School was established in 2008. It offers a 2 year Basic Certificate in Nursing and Midwifery. It is a live in institute and student contribution’s pay for their food, board and educational resources.

Murgwanza Nursing School receives no government funding. It’s existence relies on the student contributions for it’s very survival. Some students are supported through sponsorship agreements - some of these are hospital based and ensure an ongoing staff pool for Murgwanza Hospital through bondage contracts.

Murgwanza Hospital is the practice area for students with hospital staff involved in teaching.

Nursing StudentsAdmission is by selection from the nursing school panel. Minimum entry requirements are a Pass in Form 4 in a Tanzanian Secondary School Education with a pass in a science subject and preferably a pass in English. The course is 88 weeks in length divided in to 4 semesters. This is made up of 22 weeks of classroom teaching and 66 weeks of clinical practice. Clinical practice is undertaken in Murgwanza Hospital.

The course aims to provide students with a flexible dynamic curriculum that provides them with essential nursing skills and behaviours. It aims to entice self-realisation & teamwork and promote moral, legal and ethical conduct. The nursing school philosophy is to produce innovative, creative and flexible nurses who can cope with the dynamic changes of the profession, technology and socio-economic needs. It is expected that graduates of this level of nursing will go on to pursue higher qualifications in the nursing profession. Murgwanza nursing school hopes to be a starting point for the graduates nursing career.

The Tanzanian Ministry of Health provides a standardised curriculum with a:

VISION: To have competent nurses who will provide nursing care effectively at different health care settings and cope with existing and emergency health issues.

MISSION: To establish a conducive and sustainable training environment that will allow students and graduates to perform competently at their relevant levels and aspire for attainment of higher knowledge, skills and attitudes in promoting health and preventing diseases and caring for the sick as well as rehabilitating the debilitated individuals in all settings.
